AWARDS PINAKYAW NG UST

MANALO o matalo, waging-wagi ang University of Santo Tomas (UST) sa UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball tournament matapos hakutin ang top individual honors kahapon.

Nakuha ni Beninese big man Soulemane Chabi Yo ang Most Valuable Player honors matapos manguna sa kanyang 76 statistical points at mag-average ng 16.93 points at 14.71 rebounds per game sa unang season niya sa Growling Tigers, No.4 seed at may 8-6 panalo-talong record.

Kasama rin siya sa Mythical Team na kinabibilangan din nina De La Salle University’s Justine Baltazar at Jamie Malonzo, University of the Philippines’ Kobe Paras, at University of the East’s Rey Suerte.

Pumangalawa si Baltazar sa MVP race na may 64 SPs at may averages ng 15.14 points, 11.8 rebounds, at 1.07 blocks per game.

Hindi rin nagkamali na lumipat sa UP si Paras na nag-average ng 17.4 points, 5.67 rebounds, at 1.9 assists per game.

Napili naman Top rookie ang isa pang Growling Tigers member na si Mark Nonoy matapos mag-average ng 10 points, 3.86 rebounds, at 2.29 assists.

Ngayon lang ulit nagkaroon ng MVP at Rookie of the Year ang UST makaraaan ang sampung taon nang tanghaling MVP si Dylan Ababou at RoY si Jeric Teng noong 2009.

Nakumpleto ng UST ang sweep sa individual awards sa Season 82 nang tanghalin din MVP sa women’s division ang Congolese center na si Grace Irebu.

Si Irebu, na inakay ang Tigresses sa 11-3 record at second seed sa pagtatapos ng elimination round, ay may 90 SPs at kasama rin sa Mythical Team.

Kabilang din sa wome’s basketball Mythical Team sina Adamson University’s Nathalia Prado (86 SPs), National University’s Jack Animam (78.57 SPs), Far Eastern University’s Clare Castro (66.64 SPs), at La Salle’s Kent Pastrana (57 SPs).

Si Pastrana rin ang nakakuha ng Rookie of the Year honors.
